OTHER VALUABLE THINGS TO BE KNOWN
My interest all my life has been in knowing “how things work”. “How things are supposed to work." Elegant solutions that fit into the Gospel framework. As you can tell by glancing at this study guide I had a wide range of interests.
The material on physical fitness [ Warrior’s Way] doesn’t fit into the philosophy that guides the study guide, but it is no less valuable. I have a curvature of the upper spine that prevents me from applying all the principles of natural fitness but I could use enough that in police work and in life I was always stronger than three normal sized men ( which I demonstrated on occasion in police work and even in teaching). I suggest you ignore the dorky, amateurish presentation and study the principles. They are not mine, I didn’t invent them but they are very real and can be used with great benefit by anyone.
If you think you’d like to write and you would like a fairly simple and straight-forward set of principles that will guarantee you’ll never have writer’s block I suggest you look up Melanie Phillips and the Story Mind. She explains that a ‘complete’ story is showing how a human mind goes about solving an inequity.
It’s fascinating. And they use the original Star Wars as a classic example of such a story so it’s easy to study.
You’ll learn to tell your stories, even your short-stories or essays, vastly more effectively, including Family History stories. I refer you to my books and to Gandpa Hansen’s stories and essays in this study guide for examples of how a very ordinary person like me can still write pretty good stories. You can do the same and it doesn’t require a degree in literature.
Next: Art. Google Darrel Tank and the Five Pencil Method school for simple and cheap ways to produce really good realistic art. I always want things to look real and I especially want to be able to do portraits that look like the real person. It is apparently one of the ultimate challenges of drawing and painting.
Darrel Tank has extensive you tube presentations and a weekly class that will show you how to do that.
You can visit my art gallery in the guide for examples of what Mr. Tank has been able to teach me. It has added a marvelous dimension to my life. Perhaps it will to yours, also.
For painting Marvin Matileson [spelling may be wrong] shows how to mix neutral earth tones to add to colored paints to get marvelous skin tones and his ideas work for other subjects.
Okay, that’s it. I’m ready to shuffle off into the sunset. I’ve left you my spiritual will. Hope you enjoy learning as much as I do and that you’ll find this material gives you some short-cuts to knowledge that will equip you to live a good and a fruitful and fun life building on the talents you have and your vision for your future.
I’m tired and glad to have been able to share these things, but also grateful that, to the best of my knowledge, I’ve shared my treasures so they’ll not be lost to my posterity.
I love you all, even you that haven’t come to mortality yet for your mortal probation. I hope you’ll see that with the proper guidance and using the marvelous knowledge Heavenly Father has made available to use to help us while we’re here, that you can be a seeker after truth at many levels, and enjoy the journey.
